my baby brother

Adam, the girls and I went to Emma's birthday party last weekend. Emma's dad, David, use to work with not only Adam but also my brother, Joey. While at the party David asked me about Joey and how he was doing. He said that he heard that Joey was doing well. And he asked me to tell Joey he was proud of him. Then later that week I met one of the teachers at Noel. It turns out that she was Joey's second grade teachers. When I told her my brother's name she asked if he had blond hair. (Which he did.) She said that he needed to come up to the school so that she could see him. She seemed to have fond memories of Joey.

So today I called Joey to tell him what David had said and to tell him what his former teacher had said. I could tell that it made him feel good that David had said he was proud of him. I think it also made him feel good that his second grade teacher remembered him and wanted to see him again. Joey said that she was one of his favorite teachers.

I told Joey that I kept running into people that knew him and he said, "What can I say, I'm loved." I told him, "Your right and I love you too." And he said that he loved me. It's pretty special to hear your brother say he loves you. There is something different about a brother-sister relationship. Sometimes its hard to express your feelings to each other.

I'm so proud of my brother and all his accomplishments. He has really been through some tough times. But despite it all he has really persevered. I'm really proud to call him my brother and I love him dearly.

You know as I read your blog I was kinda sad, because in all the years I have been a sister...I don't think I have heard my brother say I love you to me...although I know my brother and I have been through many things in our family...I know that has kinda hindered things. At the same time I do know that he does love me. He shows his love in litte ways like a rose when I made cheerleader, a hug when I went to Japan, and then there was the note when I went off to college. I know we don't have the normal brother-sister relationship...but I love him very much and much like you, I am so proud of the person, dad, husband, and man he has become.
